It started with a hat, now look where we’re at…
I never intended to start a crochet business. It kind of happened by accident. When our son was about 18 months old back in 2018, I made him a set of Paw Patrol hats as he was OBSESSED! I posted a few pictures online and next thing I knew, I had friends asking me for hats for their kiddos. Then requests for others items started rolling in. Next thing I knew, Sarah Kate’s Toddler Toppers was hatched officially in January of 2019!
We started out as a small Facebook page. Then we worked up the courage to join craft fairs. Now… we have a growing Facebook and Instagram account, participate in one craft fair a month (we average 70-100 items sold per event which leaves me scrambling every time to replenish before the next event. Otherwise I would LOVE to do more), and a custom order list a mile long. In the future I hope to be able to do more outreach projects as well such as breast cancer awareness items, custom monster stuffies for a local children’s hospital, local kids crochet clubs as well as adult stitching circles. The ideas are never ending!!!
My goal with this website is to give customers more opportunities to shop current inventory, publish my patterns that I have had hiding away in notebooks, share our whereabouts, and just be easier to reach and communicate with for whatever your crochet needs may be. ❤
Sarah
Once upon a time, on a much needed escape from the Chicago winter, on a visit to my grandmother in Arizona, she sat me down to teach me how to crochet. At 21 years old, over the course of a few days, she taught me what she knew, bought me a book of stitches, and watched as I picked it up with ease, making her a bouquet of flowers and hair accessories. And the rest was history.
I am the founder and creator behind Sarah Kate’s Toddler Toppers. I’m just a kid at heart and find the greatest joy in making other kids excited and happy with my creations.
In addition to crocheting, I am a private music teacher teaching over 40 students in voice, piano, ukulele, and oboe, as well as tutoring all core subjects, Spanish, and sign language. I have a bachelors degree in Opera and Piano Performance as well as a minor in psychology and entrepreneurial studies. I substitute teach at my son’s school, and I am a church musician. In my “free time”…haha… I enjoy watercolor painting, sketching, diamond painting, needlepoint, interior design, Legos, and playing with my pups.
Growing up, I played softball (catcher) and volleyball (this didn’t last after my freshman year of high school as I learned its a tall person’s sport… I’m 4’11”…) I also earned my second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and was an assistant instructor for a while. I was also a girl scout and earned my Gold Award (equivalent of Boy Scout’s Eagle Award).
